Graeme Souness: Why I really want this Tottenham signing to do well
The former Liverpool captain runs the rule over Tottenham signing Vincent Janssen
Graeme Souness says he is rooting for “honest” Vincent Janssen to kick-start his Tottenham Hotspur career.
The Netherlands international is still waiting to open his Premier League account for the north London side following his move to the English top flight in the summer transfer window.
Janssen was one of five new arrivals at White Hart Lane in the summer after the Lilywhites agreed a £19m fee with Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar for the highly-rated centre-forward.
The Tottenham signing has failed to score in nine appearances in the Premier League so far, although Janssen has only started three times in the 2016-17 top-flight campaign.
The Dutch forward finished as the Eredivisie’s leading goal-scorer last term after a return of 27 goals in 33 games for Alkmaar.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Souness is hoping that Janssen can turnaround his White Hart Lane career after a slow start to life as a Premier League player.
“He is struggling for goals but he is obviously a goal scorer having played in Holland and got all those goals. He knows where the goal is,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“Looking at him, he is a player you want to do well. He looks to be a real honest type. Does he have the attributes to get goals at the highest level? I’m not sure.”
Tottenham will host defending Premier League champions Leicester City in the next top-flight game on Saturday afternoon.
