Harry Redknapp believes Eric Dier’s long-term England and Tottenham Hotspur future lies at centre-half.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has been utilising the 22-year-old as a defensive midfielder in his impressive Tottenham side over the past 12 months.

Dier started his Lilywhites career at full-back before the former Sporting Lisbon defender had a brief stint at centre-half before being shuffled into midfield.

Tottenham suffered an injury blow at the Hawthorns Stadium on Saturday afternoon after Toby Alderweirield picked up a knee injury during a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

However, former Spurs boss Redknapp believes Dier can drop back to centre-half to fill the Belgium international’s void if the former Atletico Madrid man is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

“Eric Dier will end up at centre-half,” Redknapp told BT Sport’s Premier League tonight show.

“He will be the England centre-half for many years to come. He is playing in midfield but the people working with him at Tottenham day in day out tell me that centre-half is where he’ll play.”

Dier has made seven Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season so far, although the England international is still waiting to open his account for the campaign.
