The England international has been utilised in an unorthodox full-back role following Alberto Moreno’s erratic performance in a 4-3 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in their Premier League opener in August.
Milner is Liverpool’s leading goal-scorer with a return of four goals – albeit all the versatile midfielder’s strikes have come from the penalty spot.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Redknapp singled out Milner for special praise following his impressive run of performances at left-back this term.
“James Milner has played left-back and I couldn’t see him playing there but he has been excellent,” Redknapp told BT Sport on Saturday night.
Milner moved to Liverpool in a free transfer from Manchester City under Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
The Liverpool midfielder has netted 11 times in 52 games in all competitions since his move to the Merseyside outfit in 2015.
Klopp signed seven players in the summer transfer window after Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table under the German.
The Liverpool boss signed defenders Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan to bolster his options at the back.
