How Chelsea’s summer signings have rated so far: Kante, Luiz and more

N'Golo Kante looks to be the pick of Antonio Conte's five Chelsea summer signings

N’Golo Kante

Chelsea won the race to sign France midfielder N’Golo Kante in a £30m deal from Premier League champions Leicester City this summer. While the 25-year-old hasn’t quite hit his Leicester City heights, the defensive midfielder looks like a good addition to the Chelsea team. Kante has brought energy to a Chelsea midfield that has struggled to get out of first gear far too often over the past 18 months. The Blues signing has struggled when presented with the chance to be creative on the ball, though, often overhitting a pass or firing a shot well off target. 7.5/10

David Luiz

The Brazil international secured a return to Chelsea in a £32m deal from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day just two years after he left Stamford Bridge for Parc des Princes. David Luiz hasn’t enjoyed a honeymoon period, though. Tasked with filling the void of injured John Terry, Chelsea conceded seven goals in three Premier League games with Luiz partnering England international Gary Cahill before the international break in October. Unlike Kante, Luiz doesn’t look to have improved the Chelsea defence and unless manager Antonio Conte can change the 29-year-old’s erratic tendencies, it could be a tough season for Luiz. 5

Michy Batshuayi

Why isn’t Michy Batshuayi getting more game time? The Belgium international has generally had an impact when he has been brought into the action from Conte’s bench. Batshuayi has already scored one Premier League goal and found the net twice in the League Cup. However, the £33m signing has been given bench duty so far. Naturally, Diego Costa’s impressive return of seven goals in eight games hasn’t helped. 6

Marcos Alonso

The former Bolton Wanderers defender made his first Premier League start in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Hull City ahead of the international break. Marcos Alonso was signed in a £21m deal from Serie A side Fiorentina. While we haven’t seen too much of the Spanish defender so far, he could be set for a sustained run in Conte’s team if the Chelsea manager reverts to a 3-4-3 system. 6
