Ian Wright: This new Man United signing ‘passenger’ under Jose Mourinho

The Arsenal legend hasn't been impressed with Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Ian Wright says Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a passenger in the Manchester United side.

The 35-year-old striker registered had four attempts but could only register one shot on target in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Jose Mourinho’s men at The Emirates.

Ibrahimovic has failed to find the back of the net in United’s last three Premier League games against Stoke City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

In fact, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker has found the net just twice in United’s last 10 games in all competitions.

Ibrahimovic moved to the Red Devils in a free transfer from the Ligue 1 champions in the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Ibrahimovic has been fortunate to escape criticism given Wayne Rooney’s demise at Old Trafford.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic needs to look at himself,” Wright told BBC Radio’s Five Live.

“The Wayne Rooney has been given so much stick this season with the way that he is played. Ibrahimovic is a great player but he isn’t playing anywhere near as well as he was at the start of the season. He hasn’t been able to make me think he will be able to help them turn it around.

Wright added: “He is a passenger.”

Ibrahimovic scored four goals in his opening four Premier League games to make an exciting start to his United career.

The Red Devils are in seventh place in the top-flight table and six points adrift of Manchester City.

United will host their derby rivals in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
