Jamie Carragher delivers blunt verdict on Arsenal after Burnley win

Jamie Carragher has his say after Arsenal's 1-0 win over Burnley on Sunday afternoon...

Jamie Carragher has told Arsenal that winning the Premier League title has to be their top priority this season.

The north London side left it late as they netted a last-gasp winner at Burnley on Sunday afternoon to take all three points and boost their title hopes.

The win followed Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City earlier in the day and Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Stoke.

Sunday’s three points left Arsenal in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City heading into the international break.

Much has been made of Arsenal’s failure to win the top flight title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.

And Liverpool legend Carragher believes it is time for Arsene Wenger’s men to step up and end their long wait for the title.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, Carragher said: “I think for Arsenal this year, top four is not enough – the league’s got to be the aim for them.

“For Liverpool and maybe even Tottenham, yes they both want to win the league but if you had asked them before the season if they’d take a top-four finish, they probably would have.

“Even the [two-point] gap now is probably disappointing for Arsenal from Man City.”
