Jamie Carragher delivers blunt verdict on Jose Mourinho’s Man United defence

Jamie Carragher doesn't hold back in his assessment of the Manchester United defence

Jamie Carragher has warned Jose Mourinho that his Manchester United defence is “nowhere near good enough”.

The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat by title rivals Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Pedro Rodriguez broke the deadlock inside the first minute before Gary Cahill doubled the home side’s lead with an emphatic strike.

Eden Hazard continued his goal-scoring run in the 61st minute before N’Golo Kante opened his Chelsea account with a superb solo goal nine minutes later.

United have conceded 12 times in nine Premier League games in the 2016-17 season so far, which is the worst defensive record of any of their title rivals.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher didn’t hold back in his assessment of Mourinho’s back four following Sunday’s 4-0 loss at Stamford Bridge.

“Jose Mourinho’s teams are built on that solidity and keeping clean sheets. Yes, they’re a threat going forward of course, but that today was nowhere near good enough,” Carragher told Sky Sports after Chelsea’s 4-0 win over United.

United will host derby rivals Manchester City in the League Cup on Wednesday night ahead of the visit of Burnley in the Premier League next weekend.
