Jamie Carragher delivers blunt verdict on Man United after Chelsea loss
Jamie Carragher assesses Manchester United's recent form under new manager Jose Mourinho
Jamie Carragher has admitted that Manchester United’s recent performances have left a lot to be desired after their thrashing at the hands of Chelsea on Sunday.
The Red Devils were torn apart by the Blues at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea ensured an unhappy return to west London for Jose Mourinho.
Goals from Pedro Rodriguez, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante condemned United to their heaviest defeat of the season and raised questions about the Red Devils’ displays under Mourinho.
United have now taken just two points from their last available nine in the Premier League to leave them six points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new season.
And Carragher, who watched United play out a goalless draw with Liverpool last week, was not at all impressed by the Red Devils and their recent showings.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, Liverpool legend Carragher said: “They [United] had three big games and I felt that they had to win one.
“They drew one, they lost today and if they could win on Wednesday [against Manchester City] that would maybe make up for it slightly.
“Mourinho normally succeeds in big games – that’s what he’s built his reputation and success on. He’s now had three big games with Manchester United – he lost to Man City… [against] Liverpool, yes they got a draw but that on Monday night was only a good point if they picked something up today.
“It’s now one point from six in those two big games. It’s not good enough.”
Manchester United take on Manchester City in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.
