Jamie Carragher has a blunt warning for this Liverpool player

Jamie Carragher tells Daniel Sturridge to step his game up if he wants to earn a regular spot at Liverpool

Jamie Carragher says Daniel Sturridge will have to step his game up if he wants to earn a regular place in the Liverpool first team under Jurgen Klopp.

The striker has seen his first-team opportunities somewhat limited under Klopp this season as the German embarks on his first full season in charge at Anfield.

The 27-year-old England international has been limited to just four starts in the Premier League for the Reds so far this season and clearly has a fight on his hands if he wants to be a regular fixture in the Liverpool line-up.

Carragher believes that Sturridge’s work-rate could be one of the reasons Klopp has not been picking the striker on a regular basis.

And the former Liverpool defender has warned the striker that he must look to improve that aspect of his game if he is to hold down a regular spot in the side.

Speaking on Sky Sports before Monday’s draw with Manchester United, Carragher said: “For Daniel to be a mainstay in this Liverpool team, he’s got to bring more to his game.

“Klopp’s been there for 12 months so maybe it’s a case that it’s not in his make-up to do what Klopp wants him to do as an out and out centre-forward – and if he doesn’t, he’s only going to be a bit-part player.”
