Jamie Carragher makes admission about Liverpool, Man United managers

The Liverpool legend admits Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho are grabbing more of the headlines than their players

Jamie Carragher admits there is a tendency to talk more about Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho than the Liverpool and Manchester United players.

The former Borussia Dortmund head coach was named as Brendan Rodgers in October back in 2015 after the Reds made a disappointing start to the 2015-16 season.

The Reds finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last term which prompted Klopp to sign seven players in the summer transfer window.

And the 18-time English champions are currently in fourth place and two points behind Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders Manchester City.

United, meanwhile, appointed Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s replacement in May and the Portuguese coach signed Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils will make the short trip to Liverpool in their next Premier League at Anfield on Monday night.

And Carragher admits that Klopp and Mourinho attract more interest than their players following the big-name appointments at Anfield and Old Trafford.

“We knew that at the start of the season – how important the managers were and how big the names were. [They are] some of the biggest names in world football,” Carragher told Sky Sports News HQ.

“We find ourselves talking about managers now more than players, which I think some people enjoy and some people think that it’s [about] the players on the pitch. But whichever way you look at it, it just shows how big the Premier League is.”
