Jamie Carragher reacts to Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Man United

Jamie Carragher has his say after Chelsea's thumping 4-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge

Jamie Carragher believes that certain Chelsea players were out to prove a point to Jose Mourinho after the Blues thrashed Manchester United 4-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues romped to victory in front of their home fans as they made it an uncomfortable return to Stamford Bridge for Mourinho.

The home side raced into the lead within the first minute when Pedro Rodriguez rounded David De Gea and fired home.

Chelsea then went 2-0 up when Gary Cahill fired home from close range before half-time.

There was to be no second half resurgence, as Eden Hazard made it 3-0 after the break, before summer signing completed the rout with a superb solo goal to add gloss to the scoreline.

Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, former Liverpool defender Carragher said: “We’ve spoken about both managers coming into this game, both needing that big, convincing win early on in their tenures of both clubs – and it’s Antonio Conte who’s got that today.

“Maybe there was something to do with certain Chelsea players wanting to answer Jose Mourinho, who was very critical of them when he was sacked last season. No doubt, people like Hazard and even Matic stepped up to the plate today.

“Both of them needed that big win and it’s Conte who’s got it.”

The result left Chelsea in fourth place in the Premier League table, while Manchester United are seventh and six points behind leaders Manchester City.
