Jamie Carragher responds to Jose Mourinho’s comments on Liverpool
The former Liverpool defender says Jose Mourinho treated Jurgen Klopp's side like the 'last wonder of the world'
Jamie Carragher has responded to Jose Mourinho’s claims that the media have treated Liverpool like the “last wonder of the world”.
The Manchester United manager made the remarks after the Red Devils managed to stifle Jurgen Klopp’s attack in a goalless draw at Anfield on Monday night.
Liverpool managed to register a mere three shots on target despite scoring nine times in their previous two Premier League games at their newly-revamped home stadium.
The 20-time English champions finished with just 35 per cent possession as Liverpool dominated the ball but couldn’t penetrate Mourinho’s defence with any frequency.
When Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho managed to get a shot on target, United goalkeeper David De Gea produced two world-class saves to deny the Liverpool duo.
However, Carragher felt Mourinho was guilty of treating Liverpool like the “last wonder of the world” after utilising conservative tactics on Merseyside.
“Mourinho will have certainly concocted a plan and it is likely that will be along the lines of what happened at Anfield on Monday. That was his 17th 0-0 draw in the Premier League and it would be no shock if we got No 18 tomorrow,” Carragher wrote in his Daily Mail column.
“He could not resist throwing some barbs after that game, referring to Liverpool as ‘the last wonder of the world’ but Mourinho treated them that way at times, with a 6-3-1 formation and his wingers playing as a full backs!”
Liverpool are in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
