Jamie Carragher: Why Liverpool will be confident of beating Man United

The Liverpool legend expects Jurgen Klopp's side to be full of confidence ahead of the visit of Manchester United

Jamie Carragher has warned Jose Mourinho that his Manchester United side will be facing a confident Liverpool outfit at Anfield on Monday night.

The Merseyside outfit have won their last four Premier League games following victories over Leicester City, Chelsea, Hull City and Swansea City.

The Reds have already beaten Arsenal 4-3 at the Emirates Stadium in their opening Premier League game of the season before securing an impressive 2-1 win against Antonio Conte’s side at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool haven’t lost a game since a 2-0 loss to Burnley at Turf Moor in their second Premier League game of the 2016-17 campaign.

United, meanwhile, dropped points in their most recent Premier League game after Joe Allen cancelled out Anthony Martial’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Stoke City.

And Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will approach Monday night’s north-west derby full of confidence.

“It is a big game, with a lot of new players in that side now,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “But it feels like in the Premier League every game is a big game now.

“This is extra special, under the lights at Anfield, and there’s been some great games there, you think of the 3-3 game all that time ago. It will be a great atmosphere, and I think Liverpool will go in confident with the way they’re playing.

“But it’s always difficult on the back of international games – who you bring back, what time they come back, did anyone pick up any injuries, so that will have bearing too.”

Liverpool are in fourth place and two points behind Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders Manchester City.
