Jamie Redknapp comments on Antonio Conte’s impact at Chelsea
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder believes Antonio Conte deserves credit for reversing Chelsea's fortunes this season
Jamie Redknapp has praised Antonio Conte for turning things around at Chelsea following the Blues’ 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Italian had found himself under pressure at Stamford Bridge in the early weeks of his reign in west London following defeats by Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League.
However, the Blues have bounced back to win their last three games in the top flight, and produced a stunning display to beat Manchester United at Stamford Bridge and record a thumping 4-0 win.
That result left Chelsea in fourth place in the Premier League table and just a point off the top spot after nine games of the new campaign.
And Redknapp feels that the new man in charge at Stamford Bridge deserves plenty of praise for the way he has reversed Chelsea’s fortunes in recent weeks.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Who would have believed this time last year that Victor Moses would be playing as a wing back for Chelsea?
“It’s been an inspired decision by Antonio Conte and is just one of many changes he’s made.
“He’s switched the system to three at the back, got Eden Hazard playing in his preferred No 10 position — and all without established figures like Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry.
“The lack of European football has helped — Conte will have had plenty of time to work on the new system in training. After a tricky spell, Conte has turned things around and Sunday’s 4-0 win over Manchester United was his team’s best result of the season.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action with a trip to Southampton next Sunday afternoon.
