Jamie Redknapp questions Mauricio Pochettino over Tottenham midfielder

The former Spurs midfielder was surprised to see Dele Alli being replaced with the game in the balance at the Vitality Stadium

Jamie Redknapp has admitted that he was surprised to see Mauricio Pochettino withdraw Dele Alli in the second half of Tottenham Hotspur’s goalless draw at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The north London side struggled to break down Eddie Howe’s resilient Bournemouth side in the absence of England striker Harry Kane at the Vitality Stadium.

Alli has stepped up to the mark in recent weeks after the England midfielder netted in a 2-0 victory over Manchester City before the 20-year-old netted a late equaliser to salavage a 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.

However, Spurs manager Pochettino opted to bring on Moussa Sissoko for Alli in the 70th minute as Tottenham looked to conjure a winner against the Cherries.

Former Bournemouth and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp was shocked to see Alli coming off with the Premier League clash in the balance.

“I couldn’t believe Mauricio Pochettino took off Delle Alli. He is a goal-scorer. He plays in that No10 role,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“I know he is playing a lot of games at the moment but he is the one player who could have unlocked the door.”
