Jamie Redknapp says England are blessed to have this Tottenham star
Jamie Redknapp is a big fan of Tottenham and England star Dele Alli...
Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Dele Alli and says the Tottenham man can be England’s star players for years to come.
Alli earned plenty of praise after breaking into the Tottenham first team last season under Mauricio Pochettino and helping the north London club challenge for the Premier League title.
The midfielder featured for England during Tuesday night’s goalless draw in Slovenia but was unable to help the Three Lions claim three points in the World Cup qualifier.
However, former Spurs star Redknapp felt that Alli’s performance was one of the few positives that England could take from Tuesday’s game.
Speaking in an interview with The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Dele Alli is the one player who you think is going to make something happen. We’re blessed to have this 20-year-old in the national team. Not even Steven Gerrard was displaying that kind of authority on the pitch at that age.
“Alli didn’t even play as well as he can, but you can tell the other players have respect for him. He can be England’s linchpin for many years to come. I was disappointed to see him come off.”
Alli will be expecting to feature for Tottenham when Spurs return to Premier League action this weekend with a clash against West Bromwich Albion.
The Lilywhites are currently second in the Premier League table and just a point behind leaders Manchester City after seven games of the new campaign.
