Jamie Redknapp: This is Tottenham’s most important player

Jamie Redknapp has singled out Toby Alderweireld as Tottenham Hotspur’s most important player.
The Belgium international has been a mainstay of Mauricio Pochettino’s defence over the past 18 months or so following his £11.5m move to White Hart Lane from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.
Alderweireld impressed during a season-long loan at Southampton in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign before he opted to move to north London ahead of a potential return to south coast club in July 2015.
The Tottenham defender was reunited with his former Ajax team-mate and centre-half partner Jan Vertonghen at White Hart Lane and Spurs finished with the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League last term.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have only conceded three goals in seven Premier League games so far this season after a 2-0 victory over leaders Manchester City last Sunday.
Former Spurs midfielder Redknapp explained why he believes Alderweireld is the key to Tottenham’s side this term.
“Their most important player is Alderweireld. He is a brilliant player, organiser and winner, and he has formed an excellent partnership with Vertonghen. Alderweireld is the one player you cannot take out of that side,” Redknapp told The Daily Mail.
“He, as much as the manager, has made Tottenham a serious side again.”
Tottenham are a point behind leaders Manchester City after seven games.
