Jesse Lingard delivers verdict on Man United star’s current situation

Jesse Lingard is expecting Wayne Rooney to be back to his best for Manchester United soon

Jesse Lingard has insisted that Wayne Rooney looks as determined as ever to fight for his place in the Manchester United first team despite his lack of playing time in recent games.

The England captain has found himself starting on the substitutes’ bench for Jose Mourinho’s men in recent games after struggling to produce consistent form this season.

Rooney has been used to being a regular starter in the Manchester United first team since his arrival from Everton and it is something of a new situation for him to be fighting to earn a first-team spot.

However, Manchester United winger Lingard says that the 30-year-old forward looks as focused as ever as he looks to improve his form.

Lingard is quoted as saying by Manchester United’s website: “He’s been a top professional on and off the field for us and we look up to him as well.

“He’s determined to get back and hopefully he can do that.

“I think he’s very determined. Even though he hasn’t been playing as much for the club, he’s still supporting us and he’s going to get back into the fold.

“He’s remained captain here which is great and that will be great for his confidence as well. I’ve known Wayne for a long time and he’s very determined to play. He’s got a love for the game which hasn’t left him.”
