John Aldridge states his prediction for Liverpool v Man United

John Aldridge looks ahead to Manchester United's trip to Liverpool in the Premier League next Monday night

John Aldridge has told Liverpool that they must beat Manchester United at Anfield next week if they want to keep their Champions League hopes on track.

The Reds head into the game looking to continue their fine start to what is Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.

Liverpool are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after seven games of the new campaign.

Manchester United, meanwhile, will head to Merseyside looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Stoke City before the international break.

Jose Mourinho’s men have made a mixed start to the season and are currently three points behind Liverpool in sixth place in the table.

Former Liverpool star Aldridge is expecting to see Mourinho’s men get plenty of men behind the ball at Anfield and talked up the importance of the Reds getting a positive result against their bitter local rivals.

Writing in his column for The Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said: “The way Jurgen Klopp has got us playing means the fear factor is back for opponents. Teams are showing us the utmost respect – like we saw with how Chelsea approached the game against us at Stamford Bridge.

“I expect United to get men behind the ball and try to slow the game down as much as possible. We will have to be patient as we try to break them down.

“This is Mourinho’s first game as United boss against Liverpool and he won’t want to be beaten. He would be delighted with a point.”

He added: “It’s important that we do because United are going to be one of our contenders for a top-four spot.

“In order to get back in the Champions League, Anfield has to be a fortress for us. We played really well in the home wins over Leicester and Hull, and we need to maintain those standards. United need to be beaten.”
