John Barnes comments on Liverpool’s title hopes this season

John Barnes discusses Liverpool's strong start to the new season under Jurgen Klopp

John Barnes has insisted that Liverpool will not be not getting carried away with their strong start to the new season.

The Reds have been one of the Premier League’s top teams so far this term and currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leader Manchester City after seven games.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been in impressive form so far this season and have already beaten the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City.

The Merseyside outfit also earned a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur back in August and have look to be in fine form under their new manager.

Liverpool are now gearing up for their crunch clash against bitter local rivals Manchester United at Anfield after the international break.

And Barnes believes that Liverpool’s fine start is mainly down to the players buying into Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy at the club.

Speaking in an interview with The Daily Mirror, Barnes said: “We’ve gone away to Arsenal, away to Chelsea, beaten both — and should have beaten Tottenham.

“We’ve still got a long way to go so we’re not getting carried away, but we can see that the players respond to him [Klopp].

“As much as we talk of him being entertaining, he’s very wise and knows what he’s doing.

“He knows how to get results — I’m less concerned with whether he’s entertaining and more about the ability he has.”
