Jordan Henderson praises ‘brilliant’ Man United man ahead of Liverpool showdown
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson opens up about Wayne Rooney's recent struggles with England
Jordan Henderson was full of praise for Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United striker’s recent struggles.
The England and United skipper has been dropped to the bench for both club and country in recent games after struggling to produce consistent form.
Rooney has found himself under the spotlight for failing to deliver on a consistent basis in recent weeks and was only a substitute for England’s goalless draw in Slovenia on Tuesday night.
Henderson was the man who replaced Rooney as England captain for Tuesday’s game.
However, the Liverpool skipper has praised the way in which Rooney has conducted himself through his difficult spell.
Henderson is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail: “Wayne was brilliant. He’s handled the whole thing brilliantly. Even at half-time he was trying to help the lads, telling us how he thought we could improve in the second half. When he came on I thought he did well.
“We get on well and he just said, ‘Keep on doing what you have been doing — that’s why you’ve been given the role’. He wished us all the best, but he’s the one we all follow.
“He’s the captain and one we all look up to. He’s world class and experienced, and he’s shown that this week.”
Rooney and Henderson could go head to head when Manchester United travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Red Devils are aiming to get back to winning ways after their 1-1 draw with Stoke before the international break at Old Trafford.
