Jose Mourinho comments on Ander Herrera’s Man United display

Jose Mourinho was very impressed by Ander Herrera's energetic display for Manchester United on Wednesday

Jose Mourinho chose to single out Ander Herrera for special praise after the Spaniard helped to inspire Manchester United to a 1-0 derby victory over Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The Spaniard was in fine form for the Red Devils as he produced a strong performance for Mourinho’s men to help them reach the last eight of the cup competition.

Herrera has been gradually adapting to life under new manager Mourinho at Old Trafford following the Portuguese coach’s appointment as the club’s new boss back in May.

And Mourinho was particularly impressed by Herrera’s energetic display against City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Mourinho is quoted as saying by The Daily Express: “I thought Ander brought the team to different levels of intensity and pressing. Then we started recovering balls and being dangerous. Before the goal Pogba had a big chance.

“After the goal, Zlatan and Rashford had another big chance so we could have scored a second goal and killed the game.

“But I think it was better like this because it was a way for the players to go to the limit, to give everything, and for the fans to have that feeling.”

Herrera will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action with a home clash against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

United were thrashed 4-0 in their most recent top-flight outing at Chelsea last weekend.
