Jose Mourinho delivers blunt verdict on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool
The Manchester United manager is refusing to buy into the hype surrounding Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side
Jose Mourinho has played down the hype surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side after Manchester United’s stalemate at Anfield on Monday night.
The Reds have already beaten top-four rivals Arsenal and Chelsea on the road in the Premier League this season to underline their top-four credentials.
The Merseyside outfit had scored nine times in their opening two Premier League games in victories over defending champions Leicester City and Hull City at Anfield in the 2016-17 campaign.
However, United managed to tame Liverpool’s attack as the hosts were limited to just three shots on target during a frustrating goalless draw for the hosts.
And Mourinho delivered his withering verdict on the Liverpool side amid growing talk of Klopp guiding the 18-time English champions to a first-ever Premier League title.
“We tried to start really strong in both halves, but they are a good team,” Mourinho told his post-match media conference at Anfield on Monday night.
“They are not the last wonder of the world like you [the media] say they are, but they are a very good team, so we needed to adapt to that.”
Liverpool are in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal.
United are in seventh place and six points off the pace ahead of Mourinho’s return to former club Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
