Jose Mourinho delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Man City clash
The Manchester United manager confirms Eric Bailly has suffered a knee injury
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Eric Bailly suffered a serious knee injury during Manchester United’s 4-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.
The Ivory Coast international was forced off in the 52nd minute as Marcos Rojo replaced the impressive summer signing at Stamford Bridge.
Bailly has been one of Mourinho’s best players since his £30m move to United from La Liga side Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
United are back in action against derby rivals Manchester City in the League Cup fourth round at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Speaking to the media following United’s 4-0 loss at his former employers Chelsea, Mourinho confirmed Bailly’s injury blow.
“He is injured and I am afraid he is badly injured,” Mourinho told his post-match media conference. “In his knee, in the ligament area. He feels it is really bad.”
Bailly has started all nine of United’s Premier League games so far this season following his big-money summer move.
The Ivorian centre-half was one of four new arrivals at Old Trafford after Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan completed deals to United.
The Red Devils are in seventh place in the Premier League table and six points adrift of leaders City.
