The Red Devils have played out draws in their last two Premier League outings after their 1-1 stalemate with Stoke City was followed up by the goalless game against Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.

That result left United five points behind leaders Manchester City after eight games of the new season.

Mourinho and his United side now turn their attentions to their crunch Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as they bid to get back to winning ways in the top flight.

The Portuguese coach is set to be greeted by the Stamford Bridge faithful on Sunday for the first time since his sacking by Chelsea last December.

And the manager is certain that United will establish themselves as genuine Premier League title contenders this season.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, Mourinho said: “We have a very difficult week, playing these two matches in the Premier League against two of the big candidates.

“This is not the week where we were expecting to close the distances to the top of the league.
