Juan Mata issues Man United rallying cry ahead of Man City showdown

Manchester United are preparing to take on Manchester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night

Juan Mata has told his Manchester United team-mates that they must dust themselves down and prepare to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Manchester City in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho’s men were comprehensively beaten by Chelsea on Sunday afternoon as they were thrashed 4-0 by the Blues at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

The result marked a miserable run of two draws and a defeat in the Premier League for the Red Devils and left them six points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

However, the Red Devils do not have long to turn their attentions to Wednesday night’s crunch fourth-round clash at Old Trafford.

And the Spanish playmaker believes that the game is the perfect opportunity for United to respond to their critics.

Writing in his personal blog, Mata said: “We must carry on. Luckily, in three days we have a very important fixture, and as from now we must focus on this new opportunity to get better.

“It sounds like a cliche but it’s true: when we win and everybody praises you it’s easy to be united and celebrate together, but it is now, after such a defeat, when we must remain mentally strong and keep going. Together we win and together we lose.

“We hope to give you the win that you deserve this coming Wednesday.”
