Juan Mata talks up Man United’s trip to Liverpool

Juan Mata talks up the importance of Manchester United's forthcoming trip to Liverpool in the Premier League next week

Juan Mata has revealed his excitement ahead of Manchester United’s crunch clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.

The Red Devils are preparing to travel to Merseyside to take on their bitter local rivals as the look to return to winning ways following the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Stoke City before the international break.

Liverpool, meanwhile, head into the game having made a strong start to the new season and with the Reds in fourth place in the Premier League table, just two points behind leaders Manchester City.

And Spanish playmaker Mata believes that Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool is one of Europe’s most exciting fixtures.

Writing in his personal blog, Mata said: “This has been a different week due to the international break, but it’s now over and we are already focused on the Premier League, where we have one of the biggest games of the year: our visit to Anfield.

“As you know, this is a special game for the Manchester United fans and, in general, one of the greatest clashes of the season in European football.

“I have been lucky to enjoy it in the past and I can assure you that this is a game like no other.

“This time, with both teams in a good moment, I hope we see a spectacular football match. We are really looking forward to showing what we are capable of, to play well and be competitive.”

Manchester United were held to a draw by Stoke in the Premier League before the international break to leave them sixth in the top-flight table and five points behind leaders Manchester City after seven games.

United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
