Jurgen Klopp delivers verdict on Liverpool’s chances of winning Premier League title

The Liverpool manager is eager to play down growing talk of the Reds challenging for the Premier League title

Jurgen Klopp is refusing to pay any attention to the Premier League title race.

The Reds are in third place in the table but level on points with leaders Manchester City after nine games thanks to their 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns Stadium.

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock with a superb volley before Brazil international Philippe Coutinho netted a close-range finish at Ben Foster’s near post to edge Liverpool 2-0 ahead.

The Merseyside outfit are unbeaten since a 2-0 loss to Burnley at Turf Moor in August. Liverpool have already beaten title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea on the road.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup at Anfield on Tuesday night, Klopp had his say on the developing title race.

He said: “I don’t care. I don’t care. That’s normal in football that when you are in a good position that people starting talking a little bit more positive.

“I don’t recognise too much what everybody is saying about us, but of course I recognise the mood around LFC – it’s good, but we’re still in October unfortunately, there’s a long way to go so there is nothing to say about this.

“Hopefully you can ask these questions for the whole season because then everything is good, but I am not interested, that’s how it is. It’s good, until now – not more, but good. Let’s carry on.”

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table after Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October.
