Jurgen Klopp delivers exciting verdict on Tottenham
The Liverpool manager gives his analysis of their League Cup opponents
Jurgen Klopp is backing a good Tottenham Hotspur side to produce an exciting League Cup clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Reds will host their title rivals in the fourth round as the former Borussia Dortmund manager looks to edge closer to his second League Cup final.
The 18-time English champions played out a 1-1 draw with the Lilywhites in the Premier League earlier this season after Danny Rose cancelled out James Milner’s opener at White Hart Lane.
Liverpool are unbeaten in all competitions since a 2-0 loss to Burnley in their second Premier League game of the 2016-17 season.
Tottenham have failed to win their last three games in all competitions following stalemates with West Brom, Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Melwood on Monday afternoon, Klopp praised Mauricio Pochettino’s “good” Tottenham side.
“They are still good. Good in defending, good in attacking, not a lot of weaknesses,” Klopp said.
“It will be close but that’s no problem, it makes it exciting.
“It’s again, what I said after the [West Brom] game about the atmosphere, I think everybody who was there thought something was different today.
“We are not four, five, six nil in the lead but the atmosphere was really fantastic and that’s what we have to try to create again.
“All the other teams will make as many problems for us as possible but being really in the game as a team and a crowd that’s the thing we can still improve.
“Creating a real Liverpool atmosphere more often, or always, that’s the challenge for all of us. I’m really looking forward to the game.
“It’s another game at Anfield, it is still fantastic to play there, and against a strong opponent it’s the best thing you could wish.”
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and a point ahead of the north London side.
The Reds lost to Manchester City on penalties in the League Cup final.
