Jurgen Klopp’s response when asked if Steven Gerrard could return to Liverpool

The Liverpool manager insists Steven Gerrard would be welcome back at the Merseyside club

Jurgen Klopp insists Steven Gerrard would be welcome back at Liverpool.

The former Reds captain has been linked with a return to the 18-time English champions in a coaching capacity just over 18 months after Gerrard swapped Liverpool for Major League Soccer outfit La Galaxy.

The 36-year-old’s current contract with the Californian club ends at the end of the MLS season which has led to reports that Klopp could add the Champions League winner to his backroom staff.

Former England skipper Gerrard posted what many interpreted to be a farewell message to Galaxy and the club’s supporters on his Instagram page on Saturday night ahead of the conclusion of the MLS season.

Asked about Gerrard’s potential return to Anfield following Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday night, Klopp told his post-match media conference:

“Steven Gerrard is always so welcome at Liverpool FC – you can’t imagine how welcome!

“But everything that we have already talked about or will speak about stays in this situation. That’s how I know Stevie and that’s how I am. But nobody should worry that there’s no space for Steven Gerrard. Everything will be fine, 100 per cent.”

Gerrard won the Champions League, the Uefa Cup, the FA Cup twice and the League Cup three times during a decorated playing career at Liverpool.
