Kevin Kilbane: Why I love watching this Chelsea player

The former Irish defender is a big of Chelsea striker Diego Costa

Kevin Kilbane says Chelsea striker Diego Costa is his favourite Premier League players.

The Spain international has proven a controversial figure in English football since his £32m move to Chelsea from La Liga side Atletico Madrid in 2014.

Costa scored 20 times in 26 Premier League games to fire Jose Mourinho’s side to title glory in his first season in west London in 2014-15.

However, the 27-year-old centre-forward’s erratic behaviour has attracted criticism from opponents, former players and Premier League supporters.

The former Atletico striker has started the 2016-17 campaign in stunning form after a return of six goals in eight top-flight appearances.

Former Republic of Ireland international Kilbane is a huge fan of Costa despite the centre-forward’s baggage.

“I love Diego Costa,” Kilbane told Newstalk’s Off The Ball podcast.

“I love him for what he brings to a game. He is my favourite Premier League player to watch.

“All his antics brings the best out of him. He gives the game spark. He’s the real key player for Chelsea this season.

“If they can keep him hungry then Chelsea could be a force.”

Costa has scored 45 goals in 88 appearances in all competitions for the west London side since his big-money move to Stamford Bridge in 2014.

The Spanish forward has won the Premier League title and the League Cup as a Chelsea player.
