Arsene Wenger delivers latest update on Alexis Sanchez ahead of Arsenal v Middlesbrough
Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez is in good shape ahead of Arsenal's clash with Middlesbrough on Saturday
Arsene Wenger has insisted that he opted to substitute Alexis Sanchez during Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets because he wanted to give the Chilean a rest.
The 27-year-old forward opened the scoring for Wenger’s side in impressive fashion with a deft chip to send Arsenal on their way to a convincing Champions League win at Emirates Stadium.
Wenger opted to bring Sanchez off midway through the second half and his substitution sparked fears that he could have suffered an injury of some sort.
However, the Arsenal boss moved to play down those concerns after the final whistle and suggested that Sanchez will be fit for the visit of Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Saturday.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night, Wenger said: “I just wanted to give him a breather. He looks alright physically.”
Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table and level on points with leaders Manchester City after eight games of the season.
The north London club have won their last six games in a row in the top flight.
