John Aldridge makes bold Jose Mourinho claim ahead of Liverpool v Man United
The Liverpool legend says Jose Mourinho will add fuel to the fire in Monday night's bitter clash at Anfield
Jose Mourinho will add extra spice to Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United at Anfield on Monday night, according to John Aldridge.
The former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager took over the reins from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in May after United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
Mourinho won his first piece of silverware in August as the Red Devils were 2-1 winners against Premier League champions Leicester City at Wembley in the Community Shield.
However, the United boss has endured a mix opening seven Premier League games in charge of the 20-time English champions after winning just four times and losing twice.
Manchester City were 2-1 winners against their derby rivals at Old Trafford last month before Watford eased to a surprise 3-1 victory at Vicarage Road a week later.
Former Liverpool striker Aldridge believes the presence of Mourinho on the sidelines and his past rivalry with the Anfield crowd as Chelsea manager should create an electric atmosphere on Monday night.
“The fact that Jose Mourinho is Manchester United manager adds extra spice to a fierce rivalry. It also means that beating them would be even sweeter,” Aldridge told The Liverpool Echo.
“Liverpool fans didn’t mind Louis van Gaal. They didn’t really have a problem with David Moyes. But they can’t stand Mourinho, especially after the way he conducted himself in the games against us with Chelsea.
“He’s guaranteed a hostile reception and I think Mourinho’s tactics will be exactly the same as when he brought Chelsea to Anfield in April 2014.
“Mourinho is a defensive manager and he will park the bus and then try to feed off our mistakes by hitting us on the break.
“I’m sure he will also place a big emphasis on set-pieces because United are a big team physically and they know that’s been an area of weakness for us at times.”
