David Fairclough states his prediction for Liverpool v Man United
David Fairclough looks ahead to Liverpool's clash with Manchester United at Anfield on Monday night
David Fairclough has warned Manchester United that they could be intimidated by the atmosphere at Anfield during Monday night’s showdown with Liverpool.
The Red Devils are preparing to head to Anfield looking to bounce back to winning ways following their 1-1 draw with Stoke City before the international break.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are aiming to continue their recent good form and their strong start to Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.
The Reds are currently fourth in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City heading into Monday’s clash.
United, meanwhile, are sixth and five points off top spot after a stuttering start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho.
And former Liverpool star Fairclough believes that the intense atmosphere at Anfield could end up swaying the result in the home side’s favour next week.
Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s website, Fairclough said: “Underneath the lights, Anfield is a totally different place.
“We played them in the Europa League last year and it was a fantastic atmosphere and the lights bring the best out of Anfield sometimes, so hopefully there’ll be something similar.
“There will be that urgency to win, we love beating Manchester United, and it’s a big game so everyone can’t wait for it.
“It’s an awkward fixture, they’re huge rivals. But we can set the tempo with the atmosphere and I’m sure Jürgen will be appealing to the fans to really take part on Monday night.
“And if the atmosphere is up, generally that brings out the best performances at Anfield.”
Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League and without a trophy last season.
