Paul Merson states prediction for Liverpool v West Brom

The Arsenal legend believes Adam Lallana will be key for Liverpool this weekend

Paul Merson is backing Adam Lallana to inspire Liverpool to victory over West Brom at Anfield on Saturday evening.

The Reds are in fourth place in the Premier League table after Monday night’s dour goalless draw with Manchester United at Anfield.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are only two points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool have scored nine times in their last three home Premier League games after a 4-1 win against reigning champions Leicester City and a 5-1 victory over promoted side Hull City.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Klopp should risk throwing Lallana into his starting line-up for the visit of the Baggies, backing the Reds to ease to a 3-1 win this weekend.

“West Brom are going to be hard to beat, they’re doing well, but I think Liverpool will win this. Adam Lallana has to play, they should take a chance and play him,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“They missed him against United, they didn’t look like they were going to open much up without him in the team. The Baggies will sit back and they need to break them open.”

Lallana picked up a hamstring injury in the first half of Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Swansea City ahead of the international break.
