Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man United v Burnley
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Manchester United's clash with Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United to return to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend with a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho has found himself under intense pressure at Old Trafford in recent weeks after his side slumped to a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea last weekend.
United did return to winning ways in midweek, however, when they beat local rivals Manchester City to reach the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
And Lawrenson is tipping the Red Devils to record their first victory in three Premier League outings when they host Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Burnley just kept going against Everton last weekend and got their reward with Scott Arfield’s late winner.
“They had been under the cosh in that game and were not seeing a lot of the ball or creating much, but I think one of the positive things for newly promoted teams is that they do not worry about all that.
“The Clarets have just come out of a division where it is dog eat dog and you have to fight for every point you get, so they are more than happy to do the same in the top flight too.
“Burnley will have the same mentality at Old Trafford but their problem on the road this season has been staying in games – they have been 2-0 down after an hour in all three of their away matches so far.”
Manchester United are currently seventh in the Premier League and six points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
Mourinho has been tasked with steering United back into the top four after their fifth-placed finish under Louis van Gaal last season.
