Martin Keown: Why I’d prefer Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp to Tottenham manager

The former Arsenal defender explains what he likes about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Martin Keown has revealed that he would have preferred to have played under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp than Pep Guardiola or Mauricio Pochettino.

The Reds manager has been widely praised for Liverpool’s transformation under the 49-year-old head coach following his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement in October 2015.

The 18-time English champions have been tipped to challenge for the Premier League title this season and Liverpool are in fourth place in the table heading into the international break.

The Merseyside outfit have won their last four Premier League games following victories over Leicester City, Chelsea, Hull City and Swansea City in the past four weeks.

Keown won three Premier League titles under Arsene Wenger during his Arsenal career and the former England defender was part of the north London side’s Invincibles squad.

Asked whether he would have preferred to play under Klopp, Guardiola or Pochettino, Keown told The Daily Mail:

“Klopp. I like that madness of his personality! There’s an energy about him and he seems to connect with his players.

“Just this morning, Divock Origi has said he knows the manager believes in him, even though he’s been restricted to just five substitute appearances in the Premier League.

“Klopp makes the whole group feel important. If someone shows that belief in you then sometimes that’s all it takes.”
