Mauricio Pochettino delivers honest verdict on Tottenham’s title hopes
Mauricio Pochettino tells Tottenham fans that it is too early for them to think about winning the title
Mauricio Pochettino has told Tottenham fans that it is too early for them to start dreaming of winning the Premier League title this season.
Spurs have earned plenty of praise for their strong start to the new season as they look to build on their top-three finish from last term.
The Lilywhites were impressive 2-0 winners over Manchester City at White Hart Lane before the international break as they became the first team to beat Pep Guardiola’s men this season.
That result left them in second place in the Premier League table and just a point behind leaders Manchester City after seven games.
However, Pochettino feels that it is too early to think about winning the title and wants his team to take it game by game.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport, Pochettino said: “It is difficult, for me. I think it is too early. I think we are building a very nice project and a very nice team, and we are in a moment where we need to believe and show that we are capable of managing [to beat] big teams.
“I think that we need time. We are a younger squad but I think that if you play with the passion that we play and you show the quality that we showed against Manchester City, all is possible.
“I think it is too early, but I can understand our fans feeling proud and starting to see that maybe it is possible to achieve big things.”
Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to West Bromwich Albion.
The Lilywhites finished third behind Arsenal and champions Leicester City last season in the top flight table.
