Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez told to be realistic about Arsenal demands
Perry Groves discusses the reports suggesting that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are demanding £250,000 a week in wages
Perry Groves has told Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to be “realistic” about their wage demands as the pair negotiate new contracts with Arsenal.
Both Ozil and Sanchez have just under two years remaining on their current contracts with the north London club and the Gunners are thought to be keen to tie the pair down to new deals.
It has been reported in the British media that Ozil and Sanchez are set to demand £250,000 a week in wages from Arsenal as they look to get their new contracts secured.
However, Arsenal legend Groves does not feel that the north London club will be willing to pay that kind of money to the duo, despite their importance to Arsene Wenger’s side.
Groves told The Sun, as quoted by The London Evening Standard: “Have Arsenal got the money to spend? Yes they have. Will they get the £250,000 a week they are looking for? I don’t think they will get that.
“They will see that Arsenal are progressing at the moment, but where are Sanchez and Ozil going to go?
“If they leave Arsenal are Manchester City or Barcelona going to buy them? I cannot see that happening. PSG maybe they could get a better financial deal there.”
He added: “If they were realistic about their demands then I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t sign new contracts.”
Arsenal have made a strong start to the new Premier League season and currently sit in third place in the table, just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
The Gunners take on Swansea City at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
