Mesut Ozil sends heartfelt message to Arsenal star

Mesut Ozil is full of praise for his Arsenal team-mate Per Mertesacker...

Mesut Ozil has admitted that he cannot wait to see Per Mertesacker back in action for Arsenal this season.

The Gunners captain has not featured for Arsene Wenger’s men this season after suffering a serious knee injury over the summer and requiring surgery.

Wenger moved quickly to bring in some defensive reinforcements as he signed Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia late in the summer transfer window.

Mustafi has forged a strong partnership with Laurent Kosicelny in the heart of Arsenal defence so far this season and it would appear that Mertesacker could have a fight on his hands as he tries to break into the first team.

However, Ozil has had nothing but positive things to say about his compatriot as he closes in on a return from injury.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Ozil said: “I’ve known Per for a while, because we’ve played together in Bremen, for the national team and here too.

“I can only say positives about him. He gives everything for the team, not just for himself, but for everyone.

“Off the pitch, he watches the games and comes into the dressing room. He’s just a role model and we’re pleased to have him here. I want him to get fit again and back on the pitch as quickly as possible.

“I sincerely hope that he comes back really quickly.”
