Michael Owen comments on Jose Mourinho ahead of Chelsea v Man United
Michael Owen has his say on Jose Mourinho's tactics ahead of Manchester United's trip to Chelsea
Michael Owen says that he understands why Jose Mourinho was a bit “touchy” after the criticism of his Manchester United side’s performance against Liverpool last week.
The Red Devils were widely criticised for failing to produce an attacking performance as they set up to defend and contain Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.
The game ended in a goalless draw and marked United’s second stalemate in a row in the Premier League.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways in the Europa League on Thursday night with an impressive 4-1 win over Fenerbahce at Old Trafford.
However, former United striker Owen feels that Mourinho’s reaction to the criticism is understandable.
Speaking on BT Sport on Thursday night, Owen said: “I can understand Jose Mourinho being a bit touchy. The truth hurts sometimes – they were negative.
“He went there [to Liverpool] with a negative attitude although they did press high.
“The stats are there for all to see. I think it was the lowest possession stats for United in the history of the Premier League.
“It’s not the Manchester United way so you can understand Jose getting a bit touchy when it gets brought up.”
Manchester United are now focused on their crunch Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
The Blues are aiming to build on their impressive 3-0 win over Leicester last weekend by claiming the three points against their former manager’s team.
