Michael Owen delivers verdict on Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool
The former Liverpool striker hails Jurgen Klopp's first 12 months in charge of the Merseyside outfit
Michael Owen believes Liverpool have great momentum under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds eased to a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.
The Senegal international broke the deadlock with a superb volley after impressive build-up play involving Emre Can and Roberto Firmino.
Coutinho doubled the home side’s advantage in the 35th minute with a close-range finish past West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Liverpool had 21 shots on the West Brom goal but couldn’t score a third and the Baggies halved the deficit with 10 minutes remaining to ensure a nervous finish after Gareth McAuley’s goal.
Klopp took over the reins in October 2015 and the former Borussia Dortmund manager led Liverpool to an eighth-place finish as well as two cup finals.
Former Liverpool striker Owen delivered a glowing verdict on Klopp’s first 12 months in charge of the 18-time English champions.
“Everybody loves Jurgen Klopp,” Owen told BT Sport on Saturday night.
“There is just an excitement and a buoyancy about the place. The lads look as if they love him. The fans certainly do.
“The team are playing without any shackles. They’re free. They’ve got so much energy. They’re running. They’re great to watch.
“It’s such exciting times at the moment.”
Liverpool have already beaten title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea this season as well as defending champions Leicester City.
