Michael Owen issues warning to Arsenal star after Ludogorets thrashing

Michael Owen delivers a blunt verdict on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's situation at Arsenal

Michael Owen has told Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that it is time for the Arsenal midfielder to step up his performances this season.

The England midfielder was handed a starting spot for Arsenal’s 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets at The Emirates on Wednesday night and he repaid Arsene Wenger’s faith in him by scoring his side’s third goal in north London.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was recently quoted as saying that he wants to secure more regular first-team football at Arsenal this season.

The 23-year-old has been limited to three starts in the Premier League so far this season and has scored three goals and made one assist in all competitions for Wenger’s men.

Owen believes that Oxlade-Chamberlain is in danger of not fulfilling his potential if he does not prove himself to be worth of a regular starting spot in the coming weeks and months.

Speaking on BT Sport after Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets, Owen said: “He’s got to be careful he doesn’t go down the same path as Theo before this season.

“He cost a lot of money but it was a long time ago now, he’s not a young lad any more, he should be in the prime of his career.

“He’s got to get on the scoresheet more often, he’s got to create more goals and assists and get into the team on a regular basis.”
