Neville delivers verdict on Walcott’s start to the season for Arsenal
Phil Neville admits that he has been impressed by what he has seen from Theo Walcott this season at Arsenal
Phil Neville has praised Theo Walcott following his improved form for Arsenal so far this season.
The England international continued his fine start to the new campaign by scoring two first-half goals to sent the Gunners on their way to victory over Swansea City at The Emirates in the Premier League on Saturday.
Walcott has now scored seven goals and made two assists in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men so far this season.
The forward appears to have stepped his game up after coming in for criticism in recent campaigns for failing to perform consistently for the Gunners.
And former Manchester United and Everton star Neville has been very impressed by what he has seen from the forward so far this term.
Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday, Neville said: “For someone who is 27, I think he has under-performed. Injuries have restricted him.
“What I’ve seen this season is a player that is improving. His consistency is getting better. He has scored five goals in eight games.
“He scored two goals against Swansea and he should have scored four.”
He added: People see him as a right winger but I think he’s better when he is wandering inside.”
Walcott will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a home clash against Ludogorets.
