New Arsenal signing: Arsene Wenger told me to be quiet

Lucas Perez reveals what Arsene Wenger has told him about his situation at Arsenal this season

Lucas Perez has revealed that Arsene Wenger has assured him that he will get his chance to impress at Arsenal this season as long as he is patient.

The Spanish striker has found his first-team opportunities few and far between this term following his transfer to the north London club from Deportivo La Coruna in August.

Perez made his first Champions League appearance of the season for the Gunners on Wednesday night as a substitute and repaid his manager’s faith by setting up two goals in the 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets at The Emirates.

The wealth of attacking talent available to Wenger at Arsenal this season is likely to mean that Perez will face a tough task in securing a regular spot in the first team.

However, the Spaniard is prepared to stay humble and fight for a place in the team after Wenger’s advice to him following his move.

Speaking in an interview with The Daily Mirror, Perez said: “The coach told me to be quiet because he trusts in me.

“He says that he has been following me for a long time and that he likes me so I have to be patient.
