Shkodran Mustafi has told his Arsenal team-mates that they must continue their strong start to the season over a period of months if they want to challenge for major trophies this season.

The Germany internatonal defender has slotted seamlessly into the Arsenal first-team since his arrival at the north London club from Valencia late in the summer transfer window.

Mustafi helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet as Arsene Wenger’s men coasted to a 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets at The Emirates on Wednesday night.

Arsenal have been in fine form in the Premier League this season and are aiming to make it seven wins in a row when they take on Middlesbrough at The Emirates this weekend.

The Gunners are aiming to win the Premier League for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.

However, Mustafi says that it is far too early to be talking about silverware as the Gunners look to continue their strong start.

Speaking to BT Sport after Wednesday’s win, Mustafi said: “That’s what makes the difference between great teams, it’s not about having all the one month, two month performances and then go down. It is a marathon and we have to fight until the end and if you are there, the most difficult thing is to stay up there.

“We have to try, we have to focus on the details, be concentrated, we need all the team, we need all the players and in the end, hopefully we will be successful.”
