New Arsenal signing makes honest admission to fans after his summer transfer

Shkodran Mustafi discusses his summer transfer to Arsenal

Shkodran Mustafi has admitted that his big price tag can feel like a burden on him following his summer transfer to Arsenal.

The German defender signed for the north London club back at the end of August in a big money deal from Valencia as Arsene Wenger moved quickly to strengthen his rearguard options.

Mustafi is reported to have joined Arsenal in a deal worth in excess of £35m, which makes him one of the most expensive signings in the Gunners’ history.

The centre half has made a strong start to life at The Emirates, and has featured in every Premier League game since his arrival at the club.

He looks to be forming a solid partnership with fellow centre-half Laurent Koscielny – but the defender admits that his price tag can feel heavy.

Speaking in an interview with German publication Bild, Mustafi said: “I wanted Arsenal, everything else I left to be negotiated between the clubs.

“Of course, this is an incredible sum (41 million euros). And I know what a burden that can bring. But I could not influence this. So I push it far away out of my head.”
