New Tottenham signing makes bold title claim about Mauricio Pochettino’s squad

Victor Wanyama says Tottenham Hotspur want to improve on last season's third-place finish

Victor Wanyama is claiming that the Tottenham Hotspur squad have not discussed the prospect of winning the Premier League title this season.

The north London side underlined their title credentials ahead of the international break after a 2-0 victory over leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

Aleksandar Kolarov’s own goal and Dele Alli’s first Premier League strike of the season sealed a comfortable win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side against the Citizens.

The Lilywhites are a point behind City ahead of their trip to West Bromwich Albion in their next Premier League game at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

However, Wanyama has discussed Tottenham’s targets for the 2016-17 campaign, insisting that the north London outfit want to improve on their third-place finish last term.

“It’s easy to just say we can win the league, but if we work hard then anything is possible,” Wanyama told Four Four Two as quoted by London Evening Standard.

“We don’t talk about the title as a target. Our target is to improve on last season’s position.

“We have young players who want to work hard and who are very ambitious, which is a very good thing.”

Wanyama moved to Tottenham in an £11m deal from their Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window.
