Oxlade-Chamberlain makes claim about Arsenal spirit this season

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says there are plenty of positive vibes around Arsenal this season

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes that the spirit amongst the Arsenal first team this season is the most positive it has been for many years.

The north London side have made a strong start to the 2016-17 campaign and currently sit in second place in the table, level on points with leaders Manchester City after nine games.

Arsenal will be hoping that they can go on step further this season and improve on their second-placed finish in the top flight last term.

Arsene Wenger is under pressure to deliver his first Premier League title at Arsenal since the club’s famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.

And midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain, who scored both of Arsenal’s goals in the 2-0 League Cup win over Reading on Tuesday night, believes the spirit in the camp could have a big influence on the Gunners’ success this season.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “I think the spirit is really good in the team. Even when we drew to Middlesbrough on the weekend, it was almost like we lost the game and it shows how hungry this team are to win and we’re in a spell where we feel like we should be winning every game and we can win every game, so that’s a good thing.

“So I think it is really positive at the moment and the team’s got a lot of confidence. I know from my personal point of view, I’ve got a lot of faith in the team and what we’re doing as players and I believe we can do good things this year.

“But there’s a long way to go. But as you said, the positive vibes around us are really important. We need to keep the momentum going and put them to good use.”

Arsenal take on Sunderland on Saturday lunchtime as they look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
