Pat Nevin makes bold claim about Chelsea signing David Luiz
Former Chelsea midfielder has been impressed with summer signing David Luiz
Pat Nevin believes David Luiz has been Chelsea’s best player in their last three Premier League games.
The Brazil international completed a £32m move to Stamford Bridge from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain on the final day of the summer transfer window.
Luiz endured a tough reintroduction to life at the west London club as the South American made his second Blues debut in a 2-1 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
A week later, Arsenal were comfortable 3-0 winners against Antonio Conte’s side, although Luiz’s centre-half partner Gary Cahill was at fault for two of the north London side’s goals.
Chelsea have racked up back-to-back clean sheets in recent weeks after a 2-0 win at Hull City was followed by a 3-0 victory over defending champions Leicester City.
Former Blues winger Nevin has been impressed with Luiz despite persistent scepticism surrounding his return to Stamford Bridge.
“We’re all allowed to have one weakness in life,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“He was exceptional. He was astonishing – again. He has been man of the match three times in a row.
“He has been brilliant. He will make a mistake next week and it’ll be highlighted and everyone will say what a clown.”
Luiz was sold to Ligue 1 giants PSG in a £50m deal under former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in 2014.
The Brazilian will be reunited with his former manager when Manchester United make the trip to west London on Sunday afternoon.
